Dealing With Urges

Must work well in a team / show up week after week / arrive early deferring your dreams / possess drive look superb / memorize who you serve / can you get past your routine and rapture and quit blessing a curse / we all have needs / we're all dealing with urges and trapped between your self esteem emerges / are you selfish and weak / strong enough to compete / well I know where you go to march your greed and self control around in victory / we all have needs / we're all dealing with urges / they show up and flee like cowards others with courage / get close get away try your luck hurry wait / same solution to the same old problems / I bet you've heard all them before in a past life even more / some addictions give you wisdom but more often you're dealing with urges

Go On

He fell down by the end of the earth in a garden devoted to her / he mastered what living is worth and left us to consider rebirth / he drew everyone close in his town / he helped em rise without fear or a crown and lived every day giving some ground / his whistle would follow you round / He must increase but I must decrease / I can't tell you how hard he believed / I can't tell you how hard we all weep / it's perfect but he's not here to see / but rejoice in a sweet melody / he wants everyone up on their feet / there's no point he would say without song / be good to each other go on

Which Way the Wind Blows

Here comes that feeling in my soul / give me a sign give up go home / I'm leaving you behind cause that way madness lies / when I arrive at least I'll know which way the wind blows / I've analyzed my dreams to death then dug them up to run more tests / you see those two right there laughing without a care / I need people I've never met / which way the wind blows / you reap what you sow / you'll starve and choke before you ever learn to grow / the thunder woke us all so don't act like you're above the law then go plead innocent when heavy rain begins to fall / which way the wind blows / which one of you know / what good am I though if I can't break the wall / if I can't break the wall / you can beg and scream and crawl but at the edge we all want to fall

Shady Grove

I could barely move / the wine was spilling secrets all around a crowded room / when I look at them I wonder do they see through me to you and all the growing up on a shady grove / mother may I swim do you promise that if my sorrows try to keep on jumping in / another mother kept her kid for hours in the shallow bet he still depends / shady grove I am still a kid you are still my home / I practice small kindness cause that's the way you taught me long ago / you said I packed a lunch you'll learn to love now off ya go / but I walk slow / it takes time to compose / no one gets letters like the ones you sent anymore to my door from shady grove / I am still a kid learning the latest tricks to show off when you get home / keep on playing the piano please I'll be climbing in the cherry tree that now turns from green to gold / is all this for nothing like raking up piles of leaves digging out of snow / I've had too much to dream tonight it's time to go

Alligators and Snakes

You wouldn’t know why would you care / it’s simply known as over there / nothing left to kill or share / they’re bombing language barriers / thoughts and prayers and feeble creeds / god has blessed this killing spree / I swear what an industry / alligators and snakes slither in columns of tanks / on behalf of all our mistakes / a grateful nation we ain’t / he came home unsure if he’d been blind or deceived and camouflaged nightmares from wife and baby / it’s suddenly over / he’s told to retreat and sober up quickly they beg and they plead / flashing back so slow in fact / the fog of war recedes while the English language marched around it rolled right up to our knees / while they committed news the view they laughed debating was murder by degrees / they lay waste across highways / turn civilized sideways / drowned out in crime wave / it’s insane Ol’ Glory have you no shame / the price of life on rocks engraved / get up boy soldier through the pain / well I swear

Ghost

I stay mostly close to home / unseen, untold / nowhere to go / empty constantly / what eats at me / if I could see through clouds of smoke / the days grow cold / the mirrors don’t look back the walls don’t speak / and wandering the halls that faintly creak is all you’ll hear at most / whispers of my ghost / I go out on limbs / no one sees when my grip loosens / look up listen / I’m all alone / the mirrors don’t look back the walls to speak / and wandering the halls that faintly creak is all you’ll hear at most / whispers of my ghost / the years we don’t get back / no way to cheat / I used to laugh and hide / now all I seek / you have to lean in close / whisper to my ghost

The Long Goodbye

I spend a lot of time imagining myself dusting of memories like bottles on the shelf / do you get the sense the past is pretense well then pull them down yourself / I wanna find a road loose of freedom's ring where I can live and die and feel the cracks within / then I saw a wrong turn took it too soon / I knew exactly where I'd been / dreams return as secrets like the dust became of him / the sun is high it's suicide to stand here and pretend / I spent a month one night under a sky I learned about everything I can / the long goodbye passes over mountains heals a great divide / carving out the valleys through the deepest frost / tell the kids that nothing's ever lost / I swear I saw you my face went pale / two thousand miles ago was just too much to bear / and now there's every little creeping thing that creeps upon the earth / well I spend a lot of time imaging the worst / waited in longer lines your memory's a first / I might get intense a bit hell bent cause here all I do is work on this long, long, long goodbye / the long goodbye passes over mountains heals a great divide / carving out the valleys through the deepest frost / tell the kids that nothing's ever lost / so long as I follow you around wearing this cheap disguise / tracking down a past that never ends so I'm pulling off the sun's about to rise / was there a reason I drove all this way / the weather came while you slept in the back seat / you just appear to me like rocks and weeds vanished in my rear view / strange that we should meet / well I've travelled far and wide but never to this state of mind / you gave me everything but none of it could I here bring to this dead end or destination / wherever I go you'll be waiting waving long goodbye

New York City

I miss you New York City / I’ve been away too long / When I’m down and out uplift me / I get jealous when you’re gone / Well you clean up real pretty / Just enough to lead me on and on and on / You’re messed up New York City / You drink and smoke too much / When it’s time to go home with me you don’t even wanna touch / Try to get there in hurry but your train ain’t in no rush ain’t in no rush / No conscience New York City / Friends begging what they need while you roll out the red carpet for the kings on down the street / If your wall gets any higher your dream and my dream may never gonna meet / I told you don’t feel pity / I loved and lost again / Been crying at your doorstep / You've seen the grief I'm in / This happens every day to you the broken hearts come passing through / Forgive me I still love you if you’re willing / That time you tried to hit me out of nowhere you appeared / I hit you back what is this need to prey on all my fear / You might bring me to my knees but I’ll drag you down I guarantee kicking and screaming / I’m sorry I didn’t mean that / You treat me pretty well / So many ways around you I still get lost to tell / The truth is I’m not half as proud as you the day you fell / One minute heaven turned to hell / I told you don’t feel pity / I loved and lost again / Been crying at your doorstep / You've seen the grief I'm in / This happens every day to you / The broken hearts come passing through / Forgive me I still love you if you’re willing / We don’t always get along my friend / What if I told you what I need instead of staying on this hot pursuit for a dream so here’s the proof / Think I’m gonna have to leave you and it’s killing / Just hold me New York City / At least you could pretend we fell in love when no one else would bother to stand in / It isn’t you it’s me or was it something else I said / Please believe me / Do you still need me

Half Way to Grace

I won’t say much cause I know what I’m going to say / And when it comes out I don’t mean it that way I complain / You look the best to me when you’re just looking my way / And I’m getting older but getting through to you day by day / I’m half way to grace / Alone but not lonely I’ll try to explain / Living with the fever, we never caught the faith / I will love you even as time peels off the paint / When I lay my head to you we whisper out the day / Half way to grace / Thank God we found the same shade to stay cool in case / Weather give or take / Shutters they knock against windows in pain / Just come home I hunger lying here awake / Perfect curves come over I’m just trying to see straight / Everything is different somehow nothing much has changed / I’m half way to grace / You never notice me noticing all of your ways / I could go on and on for days / Half way is fate / But at least we agree a little goes such a long long way

Anywhere With You

I’ll go anywhere with you / Won’t look back if you won’t too / Once we’re slightly out of view, begin anew / I just want you to hold on to / Carry nothing save a few sweet memories that we can chew from here on through / I won’t go wander off on you / If we stand at the sea with our backs turned to the world we could be / Two grains of sand through history / From the time I was young I just thought love tried but couldn’t succeed / There’s gonna come a time when we look one another in the eyes and plead / It all goes by and suddenly / I wanted to go anywhere with you / I’ll go anywhere but soon let’s get on home and tend the roots / Cut back branches, find new shoots, pick all our fruit / If there’s a chance we’d leave for good / No goodbyes, good lucks but should we leave a trail that’s understood / Maybe one clue points to anywhere with you / There’s gonna come a time when we look one another in the eyes and plead / A moment happens constantly whenever I go anywhere with you / I wanted to go anywhere with you
